Otter!?

Let me just talk about Otter!

When I was doing my vacation research and even into the beginning stages of my honours, I was transcribing my interviews by hand. I will say that you certainly become familiar with your data and can capture details that might otherwise go overlooked but transcribing can become a very mind-numbing exercise.

Luckily someone came across Otter through a journalist on Twitter who had been looking for the perfect program to solve all his transcribing woes. He had tried and tested programs that claimed they could translate audio files into text however, accuracy and consistency was not always up to scratch. Otter was different.

I have used Otter to transcribe all of my interview transcripts since I discovered it and have been extremely impressed by its reliability. The text that it produces can detect minor changes in speech, accents, tones and pace. I allow the program to produce the initial draft of the transcript then use my audio recordings to make all the necessary corrections. I have recommended Otter to many other researchers who have found it equally time saving and reliable.

I felt the need to share as I know there are many others who rely on transcribed data and might find Otter is just what they are looking for.
