How did I get to blogging?

I have been recently trying to involve myself in various personal and professional development activities to enrich my understanding of what it means to be a researcher. Being at such an early stage of my research that I find myself now, I am doing my best to soak up knowledge where I can. Fortunately, despite the unfortunate circumstances we are currently facing in the world at this moment, it isn't difficult to gather plenty of resources available online. As part of my research degree, my university have offered access to various online courses managed by Queensland University of Technology (QUT) called the e-Grad School. I enrolled in two courses, digital competencies for researchers and leadership and communication. It has been extremely useful to engage with other research students and prompted to consider the ins and outs of research as a professional practice.

In the digital competencies for researchers course, we were shared an article that proposes blogging possesses a multitude of benefits for researchers. I had never considered starting a blog or how blogging may benefit my academic writing but I was immediately convinced that I should start one.

There is so much to talk about in relation to my research journey as well as the type research I am conducting so I see it quite fitting to use this blog for both purposes. A documentation of the steps taken in developing research focuses, methods of collecting and analysing data to the final submission of the thesis. Also being situated in the field of applied linguistics, I hope to interact and exchange ideas with others that are equally passionate about linguistic and cultural diversity. Perhaps reading this post will inspire someone else to start a blog of their own!

I am looking forward to sharing my own learning and experiences learn from other researchers so lets start a discussion!
